ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is the only viable option for Pakistan, which is fighting terrorism on one end while its economy is emerging on the other.

This was stated by political analyst Tom Hussain in an opinion piece on Al Jazeera on Tuesday. He wrote that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is endowed with the qualities of ‘a leader’ as he is supported by majority of Pakistanis for his distinct character and political background.

‘Nawaz Sharif facing bigger crisis than in 1999’

He said the popularity of PM Nawaz stemmed from the fact that he was acceptable to majority of Pakistanis.

The writer further said Pakistanis had good reason to feel nervous about their PM’s scheduled open-heart surgery on Tuesday.

He added after a breathless transition eight years since its third transition from military rule to elected parliamentary governance in 2008, the elections that year were overshadowed by the tragic assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

Afterwards, the spotlight shifted to Nawaz, whose sweeping victory in the 2013 general election reflected the electorate’s frustration with the declining security situation and economy.

Nawaz telephones Modi ahead of open heart surgery

Nawaz’s public approval ratings remain very high, according to opinion polls conducted late last year.

Comparing PTI Chairman Imran Khan, the writer said that he was yet to mature the way Sharif had. Moreover, the PTI chief did not enjoy much public support due to his mere rhetoric, he added.

Most of the civilian population of Pakistan wants to open up borders with India. Nawaz is a good candidate provided the GHQ and their puppets within the media and in the general populace allow him to do so.Recommend

Pak needs a mature leader like Nawaz Sharif for better stability and strong government. He has done a very good job up till now by bringing back the economy on track while effectively reducing terrorism at the other end. Imran is too casual and much immature, he still have to learn a lot of politics to grab the center stage of mainstream politics in Pakistan.Recommend

hahahaahahh. Most of the comments here sound either Indian or the Maryam Nawaz run media cell of PMLN. Even dawn making a headline of a relatively unknown journalists opinion piece seems very doubtful as wellRecommend

Indeed A hospital, a university, and running a mere province are just mere rhetoric. I am not sure this article correctly reflects the Al Jazeera presentation : how could anyone look at IK and say all he has is rhetoric??? Recommend

“ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is the only viable option for Pakistan, which is fighting terrorism on one end while its economy is emerging on the other.”
Only by the backup and support of Pakistan Army because Pakistan Army took the most strong initiative to fight against the terrorism and terrorists and started Zarb-e-Azb after the brutal attack on APS Peshawar.
“This was stated by political analyst Tom Hussain in an opinion piece on Al Jazeera on Tuesday. He wrote that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is endowed with the qualities of ‘a leader’ as he is supported by majority of Pakistanis for his distinct character and political background.”
This is purely the author’s personal, strange and unbelievable opinion and standpoint and can never be compare with the majority of the Pakistani people because in Pakistan in this regard ground realities are different or the author is not seeing them with open eyes and doesn’t want to see intentionally…
In the last the I am sure that the author has forgotten the Panama Papers’ issues which is directly linked with Nawaz Sharif’s children and for which Nawaz Sharif has badly failed to convince the nation and parliament.Recommend

Yes, it is correct PM Nawaz Sharif is the option at the present. It is also necessary for him to reform the style of governance. Also, reform the Party and call it Pakistan Muslim League -National and shed the suffix, Nawaz. This way it will become a national institution and be more acceptable to people. Recommend
