NOWSHERA: There has been a sharp decline in incidents of target killing in the city.

This was said by IGP Nasir Durrani at the investiture ceremony of Rapid Response Force (RRF) at Joint Police Elite Training Centre in Hakeemabad, Nowshera on Tuesday.

“Crime levels have remained comparatively lower in 2016 than in previous years,” he said. Durrani said the police had arrested several suspects involved in targeted attacks.

According to the IGP, the government had failed to release funds to purchase essential police gears.

He added the K-P police had requested the government to allocate funds for new tactical instruments – including bulletproof jackets, helmets and other equipment.

He said the provincial government had not allocated funds in the budget for such essential gears for four years.

Durrani also reminded the chief minister of his promise to provide allowances to families of those policemen who had died in the line of duty.

On the occasion, the police chief assigned the insignia of an eagle to the RRF personnel. He added the insignia has been assigned after evaluating the performance and capabilities of these personnel. The insignia was awarded to 28 RRF units who were working in 12 sensitive districts of the province.

The IGP said RRF was raised to enhance the preparedness and counter-terrorism capacity of the police to address challenges in a professional and effective manner. He added RRF personnel were trained to respond to a diverse menu of situations.
