Nawaz telephones Modi ahead of open heart surgery

FO says PM Nawaz telephoned Indian counterpart to express gratitude for his best wishes for his surgery

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday telephoned his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, just before being wheeled in for his heart surgery at London, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.



"PM Narendra Modi receives phone call from PM Nawaz Sharif just before Pakistan PM is wheeled in for surgery. Wishes him a speedy recovery", Swarup said in the tweet.

Confirming the development, Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson said on Twitter, "PM Nawaz Sharif telephoned PM Modi and expressed gratitude for Modi's best wishes for his upcoming operation and speedy recovery."

The Indian premier took to Twitter on Saturday to extend good wishes to his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif, for his open-heart surgery in London on Tuesday.

Since the announcement of PM's heart surgery, several world leaders have sent well wishes.

"President Putin, joined by other leaders of Russian Federation, conveyed PM Nawaz Sharif wishes for successful surgery and speedy recovery," the Foreign Office said.

Earlier, Afghan president Ashraf Ghani also sent well wishes for PM Nawaz.
