In 2016, the number of complaints disposed of are said to be higher than those during the same period in past years. In 2016, NAB Karachi, out of 109 complaint verifications (CVs), completed 33 CVs and out of 151 inquiries, 38 were completed whereas out of 143 investigations, 40 were completed.
During the current year, NAB Karachi also filed 50 corruption references and recovered an estimated amount of Rs1,304 million.
NAB Karachi Director General Colonel (retd) Sirajul Naeem said this while giving a detailed briefing about the performance of the regional office during 2015 and 2016 to NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry who visited the office on Monday, according to a press release issued by NAB Karachi.
The NAB chairman said the bureau is Pakistan’s apex anti-corruption organisation assigned with the responsibility of elimination of corruption and corrupt practices through a holistic approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement.
He pointed out that NAB operates under the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999 which is extended to all areas of Pakistan, including the tribal areas and Gilgit-Baltistan. NAB has its headquarters at Islamabad while it has seven regional bureaus in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Sukkur, Multan and Rawalpindi.
NAB is committed to eradicating corruption by adopting a ‘zero tolerance policy’ across the board by using all its resources, said the NAB chairman.
“NAB Karachi is one of the important regional bureaus. It plays a prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB,” the press release quoted Chaudhry as saying.
He said that in view of the assessed annual performance for 2015 based on evaluation under quantified grading system conducted by the chairman’s inspection and monitoring team during 2016, NAB Karachi’s performance was graded outstanding/excellent with 88% operational efficiency index which is highly appreciated.
He said NAB Karachi’s excellent performance under the supervision of NAB Karachi DG has been better than in any past year in the history of the regional office.
He directed all officials of NAB Karachi to work hard to further improve their excellent performance to work more honestly, vigilantly and diligently in order to curb corruption and corrupt practices from
the country.
