A team of Special Investigation Unit headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Bashir Ahmed Noon raided an alleged hideout and arrested five suspected members of a gang of robbers identified as Ashfaq alias Shaka, Shehzad Chaudhry, Sajjad, Rizwan Sajid and Arshad, a police spokesperson said in a press release.
During investigation, the robbers confessed to committing robberies and looting citizens at gunpoint in various areas of the
twin cities including Bhara Kahu.
The robbers also confessed to injuring two brothers, Ali Raza and Kaleem, in the Aabpara market on April 23 after they resisted them while the two were going to deliver a payment of Rs2.6 million to their client after withdrawing cash from a bank.
Kaleem died of wounds at a hospital. A case of the incident was registered at Bhara Kahu Police Station.
The robbers have also reportedly confessed to committing robberies in Karachi and Rawalpindi, and six cases have been found registered against them at Naseerabad Police Station.
Further investigation is under way.
Islamabad Police Inspector General Tariq Masood Yasin has announced cash prizes as well as commendation certificates for the police officials who busted the suspected gang.
