According to reports, Irfan Ali Chachar, a resident of Shah Ali Wari village, married Yasmin Pirzada, wife of Ali Hassan Pirzada, May 19 in a court in Karachi. On May 25, Pirzada lodged an FIR with the B Section police, stating that Chachar had kidnapped his wife. The B Section police, led by SHO Mehboob Samair, raided Chachar’s house on Sunday but the couple was not there. Sources claimed that the police ransacked the house, which sparked anger among residents.
When those residing in the house resisted, the police beat them up, in which three minor boys, eight-year-old Faizan, nine-year-old Kamran and 10-year-old Waseem, were injured.
The residents also accused the police of stealing gold ornaments and wheat. According to sources, Yasmin claims that she divorced her husband and therefore was able to marry Chachar.
B Section police SHO Mehboob Samair told The Express Tribune that Pirzada had lodged an FIR claiming that his wife had been kidnapped by Chachar. “Therefore, today we raided Chachar’s house to recover the woman but she was not there,” he explained. Refuting the woman’s claim of divorce, the SHO quoted her husband as saying that he had not divorced her.
