BAHAWALPUR: Commissioner Saqib Zafar said on Saturday that all steps would be taken to ensure the provision of eatables at low rates during Ramazan.

Zafar made the remarks while chairing a meeting with the Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar DCOs through video link. The commissioner said 27 Ramazan Bazaars would be set up across the division in this regard. Zafar directed the DCOs to crackdown on those involved in hoarding and selling food products at inflated rates. He said price control magistrates should monitor the situation daily.

Those present were informed that 12 Ramazan Bazaars would be established across Bahawalpur, six across Bahawalnagar and nine across Rahim Yar Khan. They were told that staple items would be sold there at subsidised rates. Those present were also told that one utility store fair price shop would be set up at each Ramazan Bazaar.

Zafar said the provision of electronic price displays and balances should be ensured across the division’s main bazaars. He said special arrangements should be made to maintain cleanliness standards across Ramazan Bazaars. Zafar said red meat and poultry products went bad due to the heat. He said a plan should be formulated to prevent this from happening.

Those present were told to ensure that adequate planning went into ensuring the uninterrupted supply of products across Ramazan Bazaars and other markets and their sale at prices set by the government. The commissioner said Health Department personnel ought to be deployed across every Ramazan Bazaar. He said foolproof security should be ensured across Ramazan Bazaars.

Those present were told that 92 madni dastarkhwans would be established across the division where the underprivileged would be able to take sehri and break their fast. Of these, they were told, 10 would be established across Bahawalpur, 46 across Bahawalnagar and 36 across Rahim Yar Khan.
