10-year-old was playing with her father’s gun

PESHAWAR: A 10-year-old girl died after she reportedly shot herself while playing with her father’s gun in Sharif Khana area of Gul Bela village situated within the jurisdiction of Daudzai police station. She has been identified as Faryal.

A police official told The Express Tribune the girl was rushed to the hospital on Saturday in a critical condition.

He added Faryal succumbed to the injuries soon after.

“She had wounds on her face – the bullet had gone through her skull from her ear,” he said.

According to the official, the child died under mysterious circumstances. “Officials of Daudzai police station have been informed about the incident so that an enquiry can begin,” he added.

An official of the police station told The Express Tribune the child was playing with her father’s gun.

“The father, Hamim Khan, oiled the gun and left it them,” he said. “She started playing with the loaded gun and accidentally shot and injured herself.”

The official added, “She was rushed to the hospital but she died there.”

As per the police official, the body was sent for an autopsy. Further investigation is under way.
