With a little help, Nawaz to oversee state affairs from London

Premier's spokesperson says Nawaz will travel back to Pakistan on the advice of his doctors after the surgery

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will continue to oversee state affairs during his London visit despite being there for a complicated medical procedure. However, the prime minister will have a little help, with everyone from the principal secretary, military secretary and other crucial staff at his beck and call throughout the visit.

"The prime minister is kept abreast on routine matters of the country and his directions are accordingly conveyed to the concerned quarters," a PM House statement read.

The premier's spokesperson said that PM Nawaz will be travelling back to Pakistan "on the advice of his doctors after the surgery".

PM Nawaz will undergo an open heart surgery in London on Tuesday and is likely to remain hospitalised for a whole week after the procedure, his family said on Friday.

“PM Nawaz Sharif [is] undergoing an open heart surgery on Tuesday,” tweeted Maryam Nawaz. Her father travelled to the British capital on May 22 for a medical checkup.

According to the spokesperson, PM Nawaz is in constant contact with federal ministers and cabinet members, among other concerned authorities. "It is important to note that there are no postponements or delays in the matters pertaining to the routine functioning of the state."

After the prime minister undergoes surgery in the coming days, he would be instantly discharging responsibilities as the Chief Executive of the country, the statement added.

Omar Sadiq | 8 years ago | Reply This so-called PM has spent more than 2/3 of his time outside the country and seems to come to Pakistan to loot the country dry when its his turn after the Zardari/Bhuttos turn. Hardly matters if he "runs" the country from abroad or from in-country, he does not have the brains to most probably even spell "probably".

It is not the intent but conceiving such thought is considered “against” him. What has my nationality to do with my commments; the guy has obviously suffered a silent but very serious heart attack and is dead for all purposes of acting as a leader, the country should not make a constitutional crisis out of his family misfortune and allow the next senior in his party to take over until a vote of confidence or new elections are held. One day he was shopping expensive Rolex, the other day he was eating junk food ....... and all of a sudden we are told he is going for an open heart surgery. No person with a stable mind would fall for this gimmick. As usual, buy time..buy more time....wait for another incident and whole media will forget Panama and hold tv debates for 2 months on the new issue. Naive masses will forget previous episode and Nawaz Sharif will be at "business as usual". This is the history of our country.

Even after recovery a person is so weak that he cannot run the country efficiently. we need a strong prime minister since we are surrounded with so many problems. NS should resign and let somebody run the country.

The surgeons may prolong ones life with a patch up medical procedure but can not restore ones health. The patient requires a very prolonged period of convalescence after surgery. A convalescent person after open heart surgery.cannot even look after owns heath let alone give instructions for the health of millions citizens. The parliament must act now and not await the decision of the monarch to abdicate. Rex Minor
