Saudi cleric bans people from taking selfies with cats

Sheikh Saleh Bin Fawzan Al-Fawzan says taking pictures is prohibited if not for a necessity

A Saudi cleric has banned people from taking pictures with cats as well as taking pictures in general.

Responding to a question about "a new trend of taking pictures with cats" which "has been spreading among people who want to be like the Westerners", Sheikh Saleh Bin Fawzan Al-Fawzan said, "Taking pictures is prohibited if not for a necessity - not with cats, not with dogs, not with wolves, not with anything."



The video was shared on YouTube in April then translated and released by the Washington DC-based Middle East Media Research Institute.

Earlier, another video was released by the group showing a Saudi family therapist giving his advice on wife beating.

Khaled Al-Saqaby laid out three steps to effectively discipline wives — first talk to them, then ‘forsake them in bed’ and finally beat them.



However, he urged men to not abuse their wives, calling on them to hit their wives only with a sewak (tooth-cleaning twig) or a handkerchief, “because the goal is merely to make the wife feel that she was wrong in the way she treated her husband.”

He outlined the three steps, saying that a few of the reasons for marital problems was the faulty upbringing of the husbands and “unfortunately, some wives want to live a life of equality with the husband.”
