Uplift programme: Projects under the MDGs underway

DCO said 95 per cent work of 310 uplift schemes had been completed at a cost of Rs420 million in the first phase

FAISALABAD: The government has initiated 1,799 development schemes at a cost of Rs2.47 billion to provide basic facilities under the Pakistan Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Community Development Programme in Faisalabad Division, DCO Salman Ghani said on Thursday.

He was at a meeting to review the pace of implementation of various development schemes. Development Director Yaqub Khan, ACG Shafqatullah Mushtaq and officers of Finance and Planning, Local Government, and Public Health Engineering Department were present.

The participants were informed that the Community Development Programme was being implemented in four phases under which public welfare schemes including the construction of roads, ensuring water supply and drainage, provision of electricity and gas, soling of streets and other education and health schemes were being carried out.

Ghani said 95 per cent work of 310 uplift schemes had been completed at a cost of Rs420 million in the first phase and 92 per cent of work on 453 development schemes had been completed at a cost of Rs606.612 million in the second phase. Similarly, 86 per cent work on 683 schemes had been completed in the third phase at a cost of Rs991.55 million and work has begun on 353 schemes which would be completed at a cost of Rs452 million.

Ghani took notice of slow completion of electrification schemes and directed officers to ensure complete coordination among the executing agencies in order to achieve timely completion of the projects.

He said the development target should be achieved according to the time line and constant monitoring must be ensured.
