Acid throwing has long been the weapon of choice for rejected suitors in Pakistan.

Saima Mehmood, the latest victim of this barbarity, was taught at the young age of 21 that the price of exercising her will to choose a life partner is too big. Her plight was brought to light by a Facebook post by Depilex Smileagain Foundation (Official Fan Page).

Blind acid attack survivor allegedly raped in Layyah

The 21-year-old, who was newly-engaged to be married, is a resident of North Karachi. She became a victim of a brutal acid attack because she previously refused a marriage proposal.

"He threw acid on her badly damaging her face, arm and front of her body. She is in the hospital and needs white blood cells every day. Her parents can’t afford the expenses," a Facebook post by Depilex Smileagain Foundation (Official Fan Page) read.

The post was shared by many appealing for donations for Saima's treatment.

For acid attack victim Sidrah, road to recovery is a lonely journey

"She did look like a normal person before she committed the gravest sin in this patriarchal, misogynistic country called Islamic Republic of Pakistan. She dared to refuse a 'Man's proposal. As a punishment he threw acid on her face," one Facebook user, Mohsin Sayeed, wrote.

Saima is now being treated, Sayeed further added, saying, "Good news has come in. With the efforts of Masarrat Misbah and Depilex SmileAgain, Saima's treatment has started. But it's a long journey to rehabilitation and reconstruction."
