Left bank of indus river: Sindh imposes ban on rice cultivation

He directed assistant commissioners to check their respective areas and instruct growers not to sow the rice crop

NOUSHEHRO FEROZ: The Sindh government has imposed a ban on rice cultivation in the command areas of the canals lying on the left bank of the Indus River to control water-logging, salinity. Action will be taken against growers violating the ban, said Deputy Commissioner Dr Wasim Ali while chairing a meeting with officers of the revenue department. He directed assistant commissioners to check their respective areas and instruct growers not to sow the rice crop. Ali also held Taluka level meetings with an official of the Agriculture Irrigation and Revenue department to formulate a strategy on how to stop rice cultivation in the stated areas.
