Pakistan to send two swimmers to Rio

FINA to decide on names for wild card entries

MELBOURNE/ KARACHI: Two Pakistan swimmers will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for this year’s Olympics as the sport’s governing body International Swimming Federation (FINA) will be giving two wild card entries to Pakistan.

Pakistan Swimming Federation (PSF) Secretary Majid Waseem told The Express Tribune that the federation has sent the names of four of their best swimmers to the International Olympic Committee for wild card entries, out of which two will get the chance to represent the country.

“Only two swimmers can be given wild card entries,” said Waseem. “Since the qualification rounds for Rio Games are still under way, FINA’s decision as to who will be representing the country will be clear after a few days.”

In the 2012 Olympics, Pakistan’s wild card entrants were Anum Banday and Israr Hussain, who finished last in their respective heats.
