Summer vacations from May 24, says minister
Rana Mashood said that the current heat wave was expected to continue till June 15
LAHORE:
The Education Department has announced summer vacations from May 24. Earlier, the department had said that the holidays will start from June 1. However, the decision has been revised due to the prevalent heat wave.
“The summer vacations will start from May 24 and continue till August 14,” said Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan at a press conference at the committee room of the Schools Education Department on Sunday.
Khan said that the current heat wave was expected to continue till June 15. “We have received several reports about children falling unconscious in schools. So, the Education Department has decided to start the holidays in all public and private schools from May 24,” he said.
“Monday will be last working day at schools. The vacations will start on Tuesday. We have taken the decision in consultation with representatives of private schools organisations,” he said. “The weather has turned very extreme so we do not want to take any risk,” he said.
For schools where exams were already underway, he said they could remain open for exams but needed to submit the date sheet to their Education EDO concerned.
