A graduate of Royal Military College of Science Shrivenham, UK, Shah also served the Inter-Services Intelligence as the deputy director general of the external wing. He was K-P governor from 2000-05 and ambassador to Turkey.
Shah’s announcement of joining PTI was the second blow to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) after Raja Riaz bid farewell to his party at a rally in Faisalabad.
Former governor had made the announcement during a meeting with K-P Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak and PTI chief Imran Khan in Islamabad.
Imran told the media that PM Nawaz Sharif had failed to clarify his position in parliament with regard to offshore holdings as revealed by the Panama Papers. “The prime minister will have to answer all the questions,” Imran said.
Talking about the premier’s health with a reference to his visit to Britain for a medical checkup following the release of the Panama Papers, the PTI chairman said: “I do not want to talk about PM’s health, but he is busy holding public rallies with JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman in the scorching heat.”
MWM protest camp
Later in the evening, Imran visited the hunger strike camp set up by the Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen [MWM] in front of the National Press Club against the targeted killing of Shias in the country.
Addressing the media after meeting with Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, the PTI chairman condemned the killings and said: “I am of the view that whatever the belief, no one should be killed because of that.”
Imran assured MWM leaders that he would take up the matter of the Shia community’s killing at the apex committee of the province, “it is responsibility of the government to protect the lives of citizens.”
