Bus-truck collision: Road crash kills 13 near Jhang

Preliminary investigations blame truck driver’s carelessness for the deadly accident

FAISALABAD: Some 13 people died and 16 others sustained injuries when a speeding truck collided with a passengers bus near Jhang district on Saturday.

According to Rescue 1122, the bus was en route to Chakwal from Karachi when a mini-truck coming from the opposite direction rammed into on Bhakkar-Khushab Road near Adda Nasirabad Mandi Shah Jewna, about 22 kilometres away from Jhang city.

Police and Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the spot and ferried the casualties to the District Headquarters Hospital.

According to witnesses, the collision was so intense that 11 of the passengers died on the spot while two succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital.

The dead have been identified as Muhammad Asif, Arshad, Bakhsheesh Ali, Muhammad Nauman, Muhammad Babar, Asghar Ali, Muhammad Azhar, Muhammad Akram, Sher Muhammad, Muhammad Kamran, Shakeel Ahmad, Hafiz Nazakat Ali and Sher Abbas.

Hospital sources said 16 people, including two women, were receiving treatment for multiple injuries. Medics said five of the passengers had life-threatening wounds. Preliminary investigations blamed the reckless truck driver for the deadly crash.
