Amir submits UK visa application

PCB hopeful of obtaining permission to enter England for disgraced pacer

KARACHI: Fast-bowler Mohammad Amir yesterday submitted his UK visa application after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) received positive signs that he could be given permission to travel with the team for the tour of England.

“Mohammad Amir’s visa application has been submitted today at the UK Embassy in Islamabad. He has completed the process of submitting the visa application,” said a PCB spokesman.

There were doubts that Amir would not be allowed to enter England after he was found guilty of spot-fixing the last time he went to tour the nation in 2010.

He, along with then skipper Salman Butt and medium pacer Mohammad Asif, were subsequently banned from all forms of cricket and spent time in prison in England.

All three of them have now returned to playing cricket, albeit it is only Amir who has made an international return.

The PCB is in constant contact with the England and Wales Cricket Board regarding the matter and has also sought legal advice.



Considering the International Cricket Council afforded him some leniency by ending his ban six months before it was supposed to and that he has gone on to tour New Zealand, the PCB is hopeful the 24-year-old would be granted a visa.
