Lahore High Court on Friday sought a reply from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on a petition challenging construction of commercial plazas in Gulberg in violation of rules. A lawyer had filed the petition, saying there had been violations of building rules in the construction of two high-rise commercial buildings, one on Zahoor Elahi Road and the other in Liberty Market. In his suit, Advocate Moazzam Ali Shah said the Liberty Market plaza had been approved by the LDA as a three-storey building. Later, he said, it was announced that the plaza was to have six floors. He said this had been done without approval from the authority. He said the under-construction plaza on Zahoor Elahi Road was being raised in violation of rules. The lawyer said both plazas lacked parking floors which was another violation of LDA rules. He said visitors to these commercial buildings had to park their vehicles on busy roads which inconvenienced commuters. He said the LDA should be ordered to enforce its rules. Justice Shujaat Ali Khan has sought reply from the LDA DG by June 7.
