Britain's Liverpool airport evacuated after technical problem

According to the airport there is no threat to passenger safety

LIVERPOOL: Liverpool John Lennon Airport in northwest England said it had cleared all passengers from its departure lounge on Friday after a technical problem with one of its scanning machines, but said there had been no security alert.



"There is no threat to passenger safety," the airport said in a statement, adding the passengers were being rescreened.

Last year, Britain’s Gatwick Airport evacuated its North Terminal as a precautionary measure due to an incident, the London airport’s twitter feed reported.

The evacuation came amid heightened security after the 2015 attacks in Paris which left more than 120 people dead.

Gatwick airport is the country’s second busiest airport and is situated about 30 miles south of London.
