Two bullet-riddled bodies found in Ghazni Khel

LAKKI MARWAT: An official of the counter-terrorism department (CTD) was gunned down by in Sarai Naurang, Lakki Marwat on Wednesday night.

A police official told The Express Tribune Karamatullah was on his way home in a rickshaw after performing his duty when two unidentified masked men opened fire on him in Sparli Kalay. He was critically injured and rushed to District Headquarters Hospital, Bannu where he succumbed to his injuries.

“He was hit by five bullets,” the official said. Police personnel were rushed to the site, cordoned off the area and carried out a search operation. The assailants had managed to flee. Investigation is under way.

Bodies found

Separately, two bullet-riddled bodies were found in Tatar Khel village within the jurisdiction of Ghazni Khel police station late Wednesday night.

According to a police official, the deceased have been identified as Amjad Ali and Shagufta Begum, residents of Tatar Khel village.

The official said Ali and Shagufta Begum had been shot by unidentified men. However, the motive behind the killings has not been ascertained. An FIR was registered and investigation is under way.

Under threat

A large number of police officials have been targeted in the district. At least two policemen were killed by unidentified men within the jurisdiction of Sarai Naurang police station in Lakki Marwat on April 12. Another police official was gunned down on April 6 and four bullet-riddled bodies of locals were also found in Pitta area of Lakki Marwat in the same month.

Sarai Naurang DSP Kifayat was found dead in his apartment on March 15. Although it is believed he committed suicide, the police are still investigating the matter.
