2015-16: Vote for your Premier League players of the season

The Express Tribune gives Pakistan's football fans a chance to decide who they think was the best

The Barclays Premier League has finally come to an end and Leicester City, the team which had 5000/1 betting odds at the start of the season, were crowned champions with two match days to go.

In a season where we saw last year's winners Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool fail to secure a top four finish, we also saw some astonishing performances from relatively unknown individuals who left their mark by stepping up for their teams.

The Express Tribune brings you the chance to vote for the 2015-16 season's best player, best young player and the best goalkeeper.

Player of the 2015-16 season

1. Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)

Jamie Vardy saw a fairy tale ending in the 2015-16 season. The 29-year-old won the league with Leicester and bagged the Premier League Player of the season and Football Writers Association Player of the year awards.

Vardy scored 24 goals and also provided six assists to guide Leicester to a surprising title victory. His heroics earned him a seat on the plane for Euro 2016 with the England side.

The Sheffield born striker also scored the goal of the season against Liverpool at King Power Stadium.

2. Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspurs)

Spurs star striker Harry Kane won the Golden Shoe award after finishing the league as the top-scorer ahead of the likes of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy. He helped his side to make a return to UEFA Champions League after finishing third on the table.

The England international scored 25 goals in 38 games to boast his credential as one of the top strikers in the country.

3. Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City)

Riyad Mahrez is another surprise entry in the player of the season category. Apart from being instrumental in Leicester's title triumph, he managed to win Players Football Association’s player of the year award.

Mahrez, who was signed by Leicester for a mere £400,000 a couple of years back, was the fifth highest scorer in the league with 17 goals and was also the fifth highest assist provider with 11 assists.

Young player of the season

1. Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspurs)

The young English midfielder Dele Alli, who joined Tottenham Hotspurs from recently relegated League One side MK Dons in the summer of 2015, showed some incredible performance for his club and earned a call for the participation in the Euro 2016 for England side, who are placed in Group B.

The 20-year-old scored 10 goals and provided nine assists, which earned him the PFA Young player of the year award, and eventually pushed his side into UEFA Champions League for the next season.

2. Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)

The 18-year-old, who came through the young ranks of Manchester United, managed to impress every one with his movement in front of the goal, which eventually earned him the spot in England’s 25-men squad for Euro 2016.

The youngster proved to be a potent weapon for his side and managed to score five goals and also provided two assists in only 11 league appearances for the club.

3. Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City)

Young Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho proved a real success for his club Manchester City. The 19-year-old scored eight league goals and also provided an assist in 26 league appearances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

City signed him for £900,000 couple of seasons back and the investment did pay them returns.

Goalkeeper of the season

1. Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City)

Leicester City’s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel managed to finish the league with second-highest clean sheets (15) in 38 league appearances for the Foxes.

The 29-year-old along with his teammates Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kanté helped his side claim an unforgettable league glory.

2. Petr Cech (Arsenal)

The former Chelsea star signed by the Gunners in the summer of 2015 won the Premier League Golden Glove award in the 2015/16 season for managing 16 clean sheets.

The veteran Czech international kept his side in the title race for most of the season and had Arsenal’s attackers played better in the later half of the season, the Gunners could have ended up winning their first league title in more than a decade.

3. Joe Hart (Manchester City)

The England international Joe Hart once again proved to be a real asset for his club Manchester City  and ended the summer as one of the star performers for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.

The 29-year-old, along with new signing Kevin De Bruyne, Kelechi Iheanacho and striker Sergio Aguero, helped City end a relatively poor season on a better note.

The Shrewsbury-born stopper, who recorded 15 clean sheets in just 35 appearances in the premier league, also helped his team in reaching the semi-final  of the Champions League for the first time in club’s history, where they were knocked out by Real Madrid.
