"Lieutenant-General Mukhtar praised the role of the Sindh police in establishing peace in Karachi," stated a press statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). "Working on the directions of the Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, the V Corps will continue their contribution in every way to support and assist the Sindh police."
Besides the IG, seven more high-ranking police officials including all three zonal police chiefs — DIGs Feroz Shah, Kamran Fazal and Munir Shaikh — counter-terrorism department AIG Sanaullah Abbasi and Karachi AIG Mushtaq Maher were also present at the meeting held at Karachi Corps Headquarters.
"It was a wonderful meeting. The corps commander appreciated the role of police in Karachi operation," said districts Central and West police chief DIG Shah, while talking to The Express Tribune. "He [Mukhtar] assured us that he will provide all sorts of assistance to the Sindh police including training and investigations."
The officer said that cases of police killings were top priority. "The corps commander has told us that the Pakistan Army and Rangers are with the police," he explained.
Since General Sharif was appointed COAS the army has taken serious interest in the Sindh police to make it better by providing all sorts of assistance. Earlier, COAS Sharif also called the Sindh IG to condole the killing of seven policemen who were guarding polio teams in Orangi Town. DIG Shah said the army is the only institution who has provided equipment, including bulletproof jackets and arms and ammunitions, to the Sindh police.
