KARACHI: A scandal seems to be brewing as the Auditor General of Pakistan points out an embezzlement of more than one billion rupees in the audit report of the Pakistan International Airlines.

According to PIA's audit report of the year 2009, an embezzlement of more than 30 million rupees was observed in the purchase of Zam Zam water. Authorities purchased one hundred and forty thousand plastic cans of zam zam water. Each can costed 22 rayals.

Interestingly, the same cans are sold for 10 rayals during Hajj.

The report also outlined a loss of fifty million rupees suffered by the national exchequer. The money was squandered in the maintainence of the offices of the PIA secretariat.

khalid | 14 years ago | Reply aoa. to all brothers and sisters i would like to say my last journey with pia was surreal and i am sure i speak on behalf of every one in the mirpur and azad kashmir areas as we are a family of five and ended up paying 50,000 rupees per each ticket which is equivelant to 500 british pounds per ticket - in short the journey to our beloved pakistan and fmily cost us nearly double the money not to mention the 4 trips to islamabad and 3 trips to lahore the fraud is immininet within all the airport staff and i dare say i shall never travel with pia ever again and i would urge all the brothers and sisters of azad kashmir and mirpur to boycott pia until they become a local airline this would be justice.
