ISLAMABAD: A local court on Monday granted bail to former senate chairperson Nayyer Hussain Bokhari and his son Jarar Hussain in a policeman assault case.

The Margalla police booked Bokhari and his son for assaulting a police official after he had tried to frisk the former senate chairperson at one of the gates of the district courts on May 4.

The police obtained arrest warrants for Bokhari from a judicial magistrate on May 5.

The former senate chairman and his son, however, obtained a 10-day interim bail from a sessions court on May 6. The suspects appeared before Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Asif Mehmood on Monday who confirmed their bail.

Assistant Sub-inspector Javaid Sultan, who is investigation officer of the case, said that investigation was underway in the case.

He said that the police would soon submit a charge-sheet in the court.

Legal experts said that the case against Bokhari could come to an end, if he reconciled with the complainant and convinced him to withdraw the case.

Head Constable Muhammad Riaz, who was slapped by Bokhari’s son and who is the complainant in the case, told The Express Tribune that nobody has approached him for a rapprochement, yet.
