A television production training programme was launched on Monday at the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), in collaboration with the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV).

The three-week programme would improve the academic standard of multimedia-based courses at the varsity, according to a press release.

A trainer from the PTV will impart professional training to producers and designers who are involved in course development.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the AIOU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Shahid Siddiqui, announced a professional development programme for its academic and non-academic staff to update them on the latest developments and techniques in their respective fields.

He said that a task force had been set up to prepare the training programme, which would cover the university-funded professional training at national and international levels.

“A learning organisation needs to update and equip itself with new developments in the competitive era,” the vice chancellor said.

Dr Siddiqui said that the AIOU was actively engaged in strengthening its Institute of Educational Technology (IET) to provide efficient multimedia support to 1.3 million students across Pakistan.

PTV Training Academy Director Muzammil Ahmad Khan expressed his hope that their collaborative partnership with the AIOU would help promote the cause of education, through multi-media support.
