Defaulting a loan: PHC suspends woman’s arrest warrant

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court issued notices to the federal government and Zarai Taraqiati Bank for recovering a loan from a woman affected by militancy and suspended a warrant for her arrest. A division bench, comprising Justice Irshad Qaiser and Justice Syed Afsar Shah, heard a writ petition on Monday. The petition was filed by a resident of Bajaur Agency named Gulbadin. The bench was informed that the petitioner received an agricultural loan from a bank. Imran Akhtar, the petitioner’s counsel, said in 2009 the then prime minister waived off agricultural loans for people affected by militancy. He said the bank once again issued a notice to the petitioner and filed a case at a banking court even though agricultural loans had been waived. An arrest warrant was also issued from the banking court. He said the recovery of the loan was illegal and unconstitutional.
