Connected with criminals: Inquiry initiated against SHO, two constables

Another police officer accused of taking bribe from suspected drug peddlers

RAWALPINDI: The City Police Officer, Israr Ahmed Abbasi, has initiated an inquiry against three police officers including station house officer (SHO) of Wah Saddar for their alleged nexus with drug peddlers, gamblers, and other criminals, it has been learnt.

The inquiry has been launched against SHO Tariq Mehmood Gondal and two constables Safdar and Abrar for their alleged connection with criminals.

The CPO has appointed Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Karamtullah Malik as the inquiry officer after suspending the three cops.

The proceedings against the three policemen were initiated on direction
of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja.

The RPO, a few days ago received complaint against Sub-Inspector Gondal and the two constables that they had allegedly been patronizing criminal activities in their area.

According to a senior police officer in the CPO office, the RPO gathered information about the activities of the three policemen through his own sources.

He directed the CPO to initiate disciplinary action against the policemen after he gathered information about their activities.

Tariq Gondal along with his close aides was allegedly staying at a local hotel on the GT Road where a prostitution and gambling den was being operated.

According to the police officer, Gondal had allegedly strong links with criminal gangs, drug peddlers, gamblers and crooks, and those involved in the business of prostitution.

The SI had also been alleged to have receiving illegal gratifications.

When contacted, the CPO Abbasi confirmed that the inquiry had been launched against the three cops.

He, however, added that the picture would get further clearer after the inquiry was completed by the SSP.

Meanwhile, a police officer has been accused of letting suspected drug peddlers go free after taking bribe, and instead implicating two innocent citizens in a narcotics case, The Express Tribune has learnt.

An official working in the office of the CPO confided to this scribe that relatives of the two men implicated in the narcotics case had complained to the CPO Abbasi against Assistant Sub-Inspector Qaisar Riaz for the illegal act.

According to the available information, Syed Irfan Hussain Shah, resident of Shamasabad, appeared before the CPO and lodged a complaint that his brother Syed Imran Hussain Shah along with a friend Hafiz Naqash Rashid were waiting at a petrol agency to get petrol for their motorcycle when a police team headed by ASI Qaisar Riaz raided the station.

They arrested the owner of the agency along with an employee besides allegedly recovering hashish from them.

The complainant added that the police also held the two men despite the statement of the agency’s owner that they, Imran and Hafiz were not involved in drug peddling.

However, the applicant said, the ASI locked all
the detainees in police station.

Later, the ASI released the actual drug peddlers after allegedly receiving Rs80,000 from them, and implicated Syed Imran and Hafiz Naqash in bogus narcotics case.

Following the complaint, the CPO directed the Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Ameer Abdullah Niazi to initiate an inquiry against the ASI.
