PESHAWAR:

The provincial health department has suspended the principal medical officer (PMO) of Tehsil Headquarter Hospital (THQ) Barawal in Upper Dir on Saturday for allegedly failing to attend to an injured patient on time.

An official privy to the development told The Express Tribune over the telephone 14-year-old Adam Khan was injured in a road accident in Upper Dir and was rushed to the facility on May 13. The teenager’s family accused the hospital management of failing to cater to his needs immediately.

According to the official, Adam’s relatives took to the streets against Dr Khalilur Rehman, the hospital’s PMO. As a result, the health department intervened and took up the matter with the relevant authorities.

The department immediately suspended Rehman and initiated an enquiry.

The department subsequently issued a notification regarding the matter.
