PESHAWAR/ LOWER DIR: A policeman was gunned down in Faqirabad in the city on Saturday.

SSP Operations Abbas Majeed Marwat told The Express Tribune Fazal Subhan was buying vegetables when unidentified people opened fire on him and fled the site. As a result, he was killed on the spot.

He added, “The policeman was killed in a target killing incident.”

Deceased Fazal Subhan was a resident of Swabi. He had retired from the military police in 2004 and was recruited in the police in 2009.

“Every day, Subhan used to go to the vegetable market and buy vegetables for a group of policemen of the Faqirabad police station.” Marwat said. “Today, he was going to the market for the same purpose when unidentified men targeted him.”

Meanwhile, an official of the local police station told The Express Tribune 9 mm pistol had been used in the attack. The assailants were travelling on foot and managed to escape after committing the crime.

Targeted attacks on police officials have been on the rise across K-P since the beginning of 2016.

A few days ago traffic sub-inspector Aftab Khan was shot dead within the jurisdiction of Yakatoot police station.  Similarly, ASI Qaisar Ali Shah was also killed in Panj Khatta Chowk.

An official of the Special Police Force was gunned down at his apartment on Friday night in Jandol, Lower Dir.

According to a police official, Basheer’s body was found at his apartment. Initial reports revealed that he had committed suicide. However, it is believed he was shot in the head several times.  The deceased had a long-standing dispute with a relative over a piece of land. The police registered a case and started investigation.
