KARACHI:
A suspected target killer linked to Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has confessed killing a prosecution lawyer in the 1997 triple murder case of the then Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) managing director and two others.
Azmat, who is currently under the custody of law enforcement agencies, has recorded his statement before a joint investigation team, informed sources told The Express Tribune on Saturday.

“I was associated with a political party’s Burns Road Unit 23 and was tasked to kill the prosecution’s lawyer,” Azmat reportedly said in his confessional statement, adding that he carried out the murder with the help of his three associates in 2001 on Karachi’s Hasrat Mohani Road.
Meanwhile, another suspect, Kashif alias Pasha, has revealed that planning of the Chakra Goth attack was carried out by another MQM activist Raees alias Mama while Zahid alias Mulla, Sharafat alias Bengali, Kamran alias Madhuri and Naeem alias Chitta were involved in it.
“Raees along with other activists carried out the attack to vilify a rival political party while he killed a lawyer and a trader in Korangi area over their refusal to pay extortion,” sources quoted the suspect as saying.
