The two men have been identified as Imtiaz, a resident of Bara, Khyber Agency, and Hussain Jan, a resident of Achini. Speaking at a news conference at Pishtakhara police station on Friday, Hayatabad ASP Hassan Afzal said Imtiaz and Jan were in Jalalabad Jail in Afghanistan when they were asked to kill Ghafoor and were promised Rs1 million as a reward.
“One of them spent three years in prison while the other was in jail for five years,” the ASP said. “They were released from jail together. Before their release, a man at the prison motivated them to kill Ghafoor.”
According to the ASP, both men arrived in Peshawar. They discovered Ghafoor used to frequent a petrol pump on Ring Road every Friday.
“They arrived at the petrol pump and killed him,” he said. “Both of them are members of a banned outfit.”
The army officer was killed in March.
Over ‘honour’
According to the ASP, the police have arrested two men in a suspected case of honour killing. The case involves the death of Ibrahim, a technician, who was found dead outside a graveyard in Sarband on April 5. The police have arrested Imran and Khalil.
According to the ASP, the deceased was involved with the accused’s sister for a long time. Imran and Khalil asked their sister to invite Ibrahim to meet them. When Ibrahim arrived at their house, they tortured him to death and set him ablaze.
“This is a case of honour killing,” he said. “The accused’s sister told the police her life was in danger. The police have sent her to live with a local elder.”
