Waqar Younis urges PCB to fix domestic cricket

Former head coach demands that the board should act on his recommendations

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan head coach Waqar Younis said on Thursday that Pakistan cricket would not improve unless stern steps are taken to fix the domestic cricket structure.

Waqar, who resigned from the position of head coach on April 4, said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) needs to improve domestic cricket first. “I would have been pleased if progress was made based on my recommendations to the board,” he said while speaking to a local news channel.

Waqar added that the PCB was only talking about changes, but not implementing them. “There seems to be a lot of talk, but the PCB is yet to announce formation of cricket committee. PCB has real work to do in trying to get former cricketers into proposed cricket committee,” he said.



Speaking about newly-appointed head coach Mickey Arthur, Waqar said Arthur’s emphasis should be on discipline which will benefit the national team.

Arthur, who was appointed Pakistan's head coach last week, also said earlier that he will not compromise on discipline, fitness, and fielding standards during his time with the national side.



The assignment with Pakistan is Arthur's third time coaching an international side, after South Africa and Australia.

The 47-year-old South African, who is expected to take over by the end of this month, stressed that discipline would bring better results for Pakistan.
