Non payment: NA body comes to the rescue of LHWs

ISLAMABAD: Taking serious notice of delay in salaries to Lady Health Workers (LHWs) for the past three months, the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Health has asked officials to provide details of the delay.

Talking to the media, Dr Nadeem Ehsan, chairman National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Health said the committee has included this issue in its next meeting.

Dr Ehsan also expressed concern over the low salary structure of LHWs in the country.

“It is unfortunate that in a country where the number of LHWs is more than the number of practicing doctors, they are facing so many hardships,” he added. The total number of LHWs is 100,000, whereas total number of doctors is 75,000, Dr Ehsan said.

He said LHWs are providing basic healthcare facilities to about 70 per cent of the population of the country and also facilitating directly and indirectly in other national programmes of health in the country.
