Performance report: ‘Expenditures of administration dept cut by 243%’

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa administration department has reduced their expenditures by 243% annually as compared to the year 2013-14.

These views were expressed by Administration Secretary Hassan Mehmood Yousafzai on Wednesday while briefing journalists regarding the department’s performance.

He said the department spent Rs89.307 million this year in different heads, including stationary, entertainment and gifts, travelling allowance and other unexpected expenditures. “In 2013-14, the expenditures were Rs216.7million, thus Rs127.4 million were saved which makes 243%,” Yousafzai added.

According to the secretary, the department made savings of 805% in stationary head as the department only spent Rs3.33 million compared to Rs26.818 million in 2015-16.

The secretary added they reduced the TA/DA charges by 191%, entertainment and gifts by 287% and others by 604%. “We did this through political support and administrative vigilance,” he said.

About the expenditures reduction, he said the department spent Rs33.7 million between 2013 and 2014 in the “others” head, Rs9.19 million in gifts and entertainment and Rs147 million in travelling allowances. He added these were reduced to Rs5.5 million, Rs3.2million and Rs77.1 million respectively in the current year.

“We have terminated three officers, including an additional secretary and two sections officers, on charges of corruption,” he said. “The officers have gone to courts and they are pursuing the cases.”

Yousafzai informed that the department has recovered 335 surplus vehicles and disposed them off as per rules.  He informed, “These vehicles were lost in government books and were in use of people who were not authorized to use them.” He said the department has formulated standard operating procedures for the official vehicle repairs.
