Aishwarya Rai Bachchan overwhelmed by response of Pakistanis at Wagah

The latest Bollywood star to be floored by all the appreciation Indian celebrities get across the border is none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The former Miss World — who visited Wagah border to shoot for her film Sarbjit — shared she is overwhelmed by the magnitude of love she has received from both India and Pakistan. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the Jazbaa actor was asked if she is aware about her tremendous fan following in Pakistan, to which she replied, “I have experienced it in person when we were shooting at Wagah. It was a surreal experience.”

She added, “We are standing there and the shoot is going on. The gates are open and you can see Pakistan and you notice that the people are the same and the love for each other is the same.”

Aishwarya stated she really wanted to witness the Beating Retreat ceremony at the border but had to leave early.

“Everybody is shouting across, acknowledging, screaming, giving their love and I am thinking this is so surreal,” she shared. “These are meant to be ‘enemy states’; these are meant to be countries that don’t get along with each other but we are one. And there is the same love and excitement. We look alike and we talk alike. We are the same, we have been the same there’s just one line in between.”
