QUETTA: Unidentified men abducted a doctor in Quetta on Tuesday.

According to police, Dr Irshad Khosa, a diabetes specialist, was kidnapped when he was on his way home from his healthcare centre in Jinahh Town Quetta. He was taken to an undisclosed location, the police added.

Soon after the incident, heavy contingents of security forces rushed to the crime scene and cordoned off the area. Security at the checkpoints is also reported to have been beefed up.

Meanwhile, the doctors’ associations based in Balochistan have given a 72-hour ultimatum to the government for the release of the kidnapped doctor.

Addressing a press conference here at Quetta Press Club on Tuesday, provincial president Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Dr Aziz Lehri said that doctors had been the target for a long time in Balochistan, adding that Dr Deen Muhammad Baloch and Dr Akbar Marri still remain untraced. And now, Dr Irshad Khosa has been kidnapped, they said.
