Under attack: Police constable killed in Mardan

MARDAN/PESHAWAR: A police constable was gunned down within the jurisdiction of Saro Shah police station of Mardan on Tuesday. Separately, a police check post was attacked in Michni Gate near Warsak Road.

According to a police official, Muhammad Usman was on his way home after performing in Akber Banda in Mardan. “Two masked men shot him and fled the site,” he said. His funeral was held at Police Lines in Mardan and was attended by a large number of police officials.

Separately, a terrorism bid was foiled within the jurisdiction of Katlang police station. Mir Waris was arrested during a raid on a house.

Unidentified men attacked police officials at a check post in Michni Gate near Warsak Road. “Three men in a car opened fire on the check post and fled,” an official said.

Earlier in the day, a retired Frontier Corps official was killed during a shootout with police at a hotel in the city. He has been identified as Akhya Khan.
