PESHAWAR: A majority of complaints of harassment against women have surfaced in the health and education departments due to the attitude of the police.

This was shared by Human Rights Directorate (HRD) Director Noor Zaman Khattak during a briefing in the city on Tuesday.

“The directorate has addressed 538 complaints during last five years in the province,” he said. “We have received and addressed 192 complaints since the beginning of 2016.”

According to Khattak, people have invested their confidence in the directorate as their grievances are being addressed. “Initially, little was known about HRD’s activities,” he said.

He added, “The department is working effectively to resolve the problems faced by the public. It has raised awareness about human rights throughout the province.”

The HRD director said the law department must safeguard human rights at all costs.
