RAWALPINDI: A transvestite was shot dead in the Banni police precincts on Monday. The victim has been identified as Saleem alias Dani, a resident of Faisalabad.

According to the preliminary investigation, an armed man broke into the flat of Saleem in the small hours of Monday while he was asleep and shot at him.

A bullet hit Saleem in the head and he died on the spot. The assailant, however, fled from the crime scene with his weapon.

Following the incident, the local police reached the flat and shifted the body to the district headquarters hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Saleem was living in the flat along with a colleague. The police registered a case against the assailant and investigation is under way.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized a big cache of drugs, weapons and arrested three suspected drug smugglers.

The ANF officials on information raided a house in the Akalgarh area of Rawalpindi and arrested a suspected drug peddler along with 1.5kg of heroin.

On information extracted from the drug peddler, the ANF team conducted a raid at a house and arrested two more drug smugglers along with 5.6kg of heroin, a submachine gun (SMG) and a pistol.

In a separate incident, a 43-year-old man has gone missing from his office in the Golra police jurisdiction. Muhammad Saleem*, a resident of Chungi No 26, lodged a complaint with the local police that his brother, Muhammad Faraz*, had gone to his office on Monday and did not return. He, however, suspected that he might have been kidnapped.
