Unsafe flyover: Bab-e-Peshawar

Letter May 09, 2016
Proactive measures should be taken for the upper bridge in the way of installing steel curtains on both sides

PESHAWAR: I am writing about the Bab-e-Peshawar flyover to call the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government’s attention towards taking safety measures for the bridge. The upper bridge, which connects Jamrud Road and Karkhano markets to Hayatabad, is very unsafe and dangerous due to the absence of a safety steel curtain.

Whenever I cross the flyover, a huge crowd of people of all ages stands over the bridge, busy taking selfies. Some of them even sit on top of the bridge walls, while others stand with their legs dangling. This frequently happens during busy evening and weekend hours. The terrorism-affected citizens of K-P deserve every opportunity to entertain themselves but this activity may prove to be life-threatening. The bridge needs further work to make it safe. Otherwise, it may take several lives very soon. In order to protect citizens, proactive measures should be taken for the upper bridge in the way of installing steel curtains on both sides.
