LAHORE:

A young man and his friends on Friday heckled a judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC) following the dismissal of his habeas corpus petition.

Bilal Bashir had moved the petition for the recovery of his wife from her parental home. Bashir and his friends also aimed a pistol on lawyers appearing on behalf of the other party. The man and his friend Awais were later nabbed by security personnel stationed at the court and handed over to the pertinent police station.

The episode unfolded after Justice Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmad finished hearing the petition by the Kahna resident. Bashir and his friends started shouting at the judge when he dismissed the petition after Bashir’s wife expressed the desire to remain with her parents. They also threatened Justice Ahmad with dire consequences before being expelled from the premises.

Later, the men started hurling abuse at those representing the other party and aimed a gun and pointed a dagger at them. Some lawyers overpowered them and gave them a sound thrashing. Those of Bashir’s friends who were armed managed to flee from the spot before the arrival of security personnel there. However, Bashir and Awais were nabbed and later handed over to police.
