Against rodents: WSSP says 7,500 rats killed in city

PESHAWAR:

Over 7,500 giant rats have been killed in the city and its outskirts as part of an operation against rodents.

This was shared by Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP). The campaign against rodents was introduced by the city administration after excessive reports of rat-bite cases were received in various parts of the city. Initially, a bounty or reward of Rs25 was announced by the city’s mayor for killing a rat. However, it was later renounced.

WSSP Spokesperson Taimoor Shah told The Express Tribune on Friday four special task force teams have been formulated to carry out operations in different areas of the city. He said the teams, with the support of residents, conducted operations against rats daily and killed them through poisonous chemicals. The bodies of rodents were then dumped in a reserved site in Hazar Khwani.

According to officials at Lady Reading Hospital, the incidents of rat bites increased to over 450 in the city.
