Abid Aqil, the guard, was killed along with his companion, Atiq, on April 4 near Nagan Chowrangi. Atiq’s six-year-old daughter was also injured in the attack and died after succumbing to her wounds. Besides performing security duty for Jalil, Abid was also a city warden and he, along with Atiq and his daughter, in a city warden’s mobile, was travelling towards Nagan Chowrangi from Sakhi Hassan when armed assailants riding a motorcycle targeted them.
Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) official SSP Naveed Khawaja, at a press conference on Friday, identified the suspects as Syed Nasir Ali and Akram alias Kana alias Mama. According to CTD officials, they were arrested during a targeted raid in Surjani Town and weapons were also seized from them. The suspects were associated with units 135 and 136 of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s New Karachi sector and were accused of being members of the party’s ‘militant wing’.
“City warden Abid Aqil was their target but his friend [along with his] daughter also became victims of the incident,” he said.
SSP Khawaja added that the suspects were given the task to kill the city warden over a dispute on China-cutting in Yaro Goth in Surjani Town by a person, identified as Annu. However, Annu is currently in Punjab, he said.
