“A mentally unstable woman, Maryam, took her four girls to a water tank inside her house and pushed them into the water,” said an official while talking to The Express Tribune.

“After pushing the girls, the woman also jumped into the tank filled with four-feet of water, apparently to commit suicide but she survived,” he added. According to the victims’ father Muhammad Khan, the girls’ grandmother had gone to visit a doctor when his wife committed the crime. “My wife has been mentally ill,” he added.

Later, police and the rescue workers retrieved the dead bodies of the minor kids and rushed them to the Civil Hospital Quetta. The mother was also shifted to the facility for medical treatment.

The victims – identified as Zakiya, 10, Farzana, 8, Parwana, 6, and Yaseemen, 2 –apparently drowned to death. Doctors said clothes of the girls and their mother were wet when they were brought in. “During examination, I could not see torture scars on the girl’s bodies. They appeared to have instantly died after they were pushed into the tank,” said the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer Naeem Durrani

According to police officials, the mother’s psychological examination would be carried out to ascertain whether or not she is really plagued with mental problems.

Haji Atiya | 7 years ago | Reply @Azi: Too many unemployed or underemployed people living close to the poverty line living in a country brimming with all manner of problems....should have cut runaway population growth 50 years ago, at least after the creation of Bangladesh, to handle all these problems but on a lesser magnitude. However, the religious zealots would have it otherwise !
