The Director General (Awareness and Prevention) National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Aaliya Rasheed on Thursday stressed corruption could be uprooted from society provided people became accountable for their actions.
She said that youth play a vital role in fighting corruption. With focus on role of women and young girls in saying ‘No-to-Corruption,’ she advised young students to be complacent and do not demand of expensive things from their parents.
Delivering a lecture at Islamabad Model College for Girls, F-6/2, she said Pakistan was like a mother to each Pakistani and it was collective duty to save it from corruption. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had said “Corruption is like a poison and we should put it down with an iron hand.”
Aaliya Rasheed said that corruption could be bribery, misuse of authority, nepotism, embezzlement, cheating and extortion. She also mentioned steps taken by National Accountability Bureau to curb corruption. For this, the slogan ‘Say-No-to Corruption’ has been printed on CNICs, driving licences, utility bills and on the postage stamps as well, thus spreading the message to everyone.
A story book has also been published where the character Gogi is also saying ‘No-to-Corruption’. Aaliya Rasheed said Pakistan has become a trend-setter in saying and spreading this message.
The lecture was also attended by DG Shahnaz Riaz and DG Talat Anjum. On the occasion, Principal Tasneem Sher Muhammad suggested that the slogan No-to-Corruption should also be printed on textbooks.
