FAISALABAD:

A eunuch was shot dead and her body was dumped on a roadside following a police chase on Wednesday night. Police said the eunuch had been told to stop at the picket but she had sped off in her car.

They said 20-year-old Khurram Shehzad, alias Nagina, a resident of Taj Colony, Sargodha Road, and her friends Nino and Basharat were in a car when they were stopped by a mobile police team near a picket at Raja Chowk, Warispura. Police said the police team comprising ASI Anwar and Constables Usman, Naqash, Shaukat and Imtiaz had chased the vehicle.

They shot at the car and Nagina was hit. Police said she died on the spot. Basharat, who was driving the car, accelerated and lost the police. Police said Basharat and Nino later dumped Nagina’s body near Rehmania Masjid on Millat Road.

A passer-by spotted the body and called the police. They identified the body and informed Nagina’s family.

Her family members told the police that Nagina had left the house on Wednesday night with her friend Nino. Police then took Nino into custody and interrogated her. She told them that the police had shot Nagina dead after they had sped away from the picket at Raja Chowk, Waris Pura.

Batala Colony police have registered a case under Sections 302, 201, 148, 149 of Pakistan Penal Code (murder; concealing evidence; rioting; unlawful assembly) against seven people – five police officials, Basharat and Nino – on a complaint filed by Mubashar, Nagina’s brother.

Mubashar, the complainant, told The Express Tribune that the police had murdered Nagina because she had refused to entertain their request to leave with them. He said the police had wanted to take her to an undisclosed location and when she refused, they had shot her dead.

He said the police had signalled them to stop, which they did. The police had then told them to accompany them to an undisclosed location but they had refused, Mubashar said.

Batala Colony SHO Khawaja Imran Monan said they had not yet received results of the post-mortem examination.

“We are still trying to ascertain the facts.” He said they would arrest the policemen if evidence was found against them.
