Younus’s blunders

KARACHI: Pakistan’s only World Twenty20-winning captain, Younus Khan, committed a serious blunder by quitting the Pakistan Cup 2016, midway, before rejoining the tournament. Younus has a long history of committing mistakes and realising it later. Earlier, in 2009, after the Champions Trophy, he resigned the captaincy and later regretted it. In the same year, after winning the World Twenty20, he retired from Twenty20 cricket but after a couple of months decided to reverse the decision. The most successful Test batsman of Pakistan has shown immaturity on several occasions.

The most pertinent point is that all this is not just Younus’s fault. Our cricketing system is such that it stunts the maturity of our cricketers. It is high time the cricket board paid attention to the grooming of our players. It will be very beneficial for the board and, most importantly, for Pakistan.
