Apparently the Bajirao Mastani actor had auditioned for the role of an Egyptian girl. However, she hasn't received any response as yet.
It is also being said that the casting directors are now looking for other actors to play the role.
A source close to the project was quoted as saying, "They are looking at other options. Even if Deepika doesn't make the cut, the very fact that she was in the running for an important role in a Tom Cruise starrer is quite a high in itself."
Another Bollywood actor, Huma Qureshi had also failed to bag the lead role opposite Tom Cruise.
