Pakistan drop to ninth in ODI rankings

T20I side maintains seventh position in rankings

Pakistan's ODI ranking woes continue as they drop to the ninth place according to International Cricket Council's (ICC) annual update.

The drop in ranking came as a result of West Indies' upward movement as they bagged a +2 score to move to 88 points in contrast to Pakistan's 87.



It should be kept in mind that before the September 30, 2015, the cut-off date for the 2017 Champions Trophy qualification, Pakistan beat Sri Lanka 3-2 in the ODI series to grab the last eighth spot throwing the Windies out of the race.

Another important cut-0ff date announced by ICC is September 30, 2017, for the 2019 World Cup. Hosts England qualify for the event by default while the next best seven teams will qualify for the event without playing qualifiers.

The race will once again see Pakistan, West Indies and to some extent Bangladesh fight to maintain their positions among top eight.



Australia (124) and New Zealand (113), meanwhile, retained the first and second positions respectively in the ODI rankings. India (109) were however pulled down to fourth by South Africa (112) who rose to the third position.

Sri Lanka (104), England (103) and Bangladesh (98) also retained the fifth, sixth and seventh spots.

Seventh in T20I rankings

Meanwhile, Pakistan T20I team maintained their seventh position in the ICC's T20Is team rankings.

New Zealand jumped two places up to become grab the first position, while India and 2016 World T20 winners West Indies sit on the second and third spots, respectively.

South Africa, England and Australia are on fourth, fifth and sixth places while Sri Lanka bagged the eighth position.
